Another one of the rarer causes of hair loss in men is infections of the scalp and the skin, the most common of which is ringworm. So-called because it causes a “ring” of redness underneath the skin, this is caused by a parasite that burrows underneath.

The skin under which the ringworm has burrowed will be red and inflamed. Hair will fall out during the infection and will not grow back while it remains infected.

There are a number of treatments for infections like these. They are painless and widely available. In many cases you can treat them with a simple course of tablets. Once the infection is treated, then the hair should grow back and the problems will no longer be visible.

On the plus side, this hair loss is typically very short lived. The body goes through a stage of shedding the hair, after which it will begin to grow back. So, don’t worry if you begin to experience hair loss as a result of medication. There’s a good chance it will grow back without you needing to stop taking the drug.

If you don’t get enough, your body will struggle to growth healthy hair. That doesn’t mean that you have to start chugging protein drinks immediately.
